Julaine has lived out her calling, not just as a teacher, but as a worshipper and intercessor through the expression of dance and movement.

Worship was originally published and taught to her students as one of the manuals for Spirit of Life Dance Ministries.

About the book Worship

My journey in worship dance began in the quiet of my parents’ house in 1981 when I was 12 years old. For the first few years, it was just me and Jesus when no one else was around. Then in 1986, we joined the Lighthouse Christian Centre around the time of The Feast of Tabernacles. As they opened the celebrations, a group of young women came dancing in procession down the aisles. My heart leapt with joy, and I was filled with the sense of “This is what I have been longing for!”.

Two years later, I was one of those dancers and a year later, I was heading up the dancing in our church, meeting every Saturday with a small group to dance and study the Word. I spent hours researching dance, the history of worship in the church and sourcing whatever material I could on dance – and there wasn’t very much available back then, as dance was a relatively new expression of worship. During this time, I also attended the School of Psalmody offered at our church and learnt about the Hebrew and Greek words for Praise and Worship, learning that biblically and culturally, dancing is part of worship – another confirmation of my experience in 1981.

In 1992, I had the opportunity to study at the Psalmody Academy at Rhema in Randburg, where I trained in Christian Dance. It was there that the Lord told me, “I have called you to dance for Me”, giving me strategy and a vision for teaching others to Worship Him (see Vision Statement).

In 2000, I compiled my teaching materials gathered over the previous 11 years, into 3 manuals: An Introduction to Christian Dance; Worship; and Flags and Banners. The years of living this out in my calling, not just as a teacher but as a worshipper, have brought me to a place where the Lord has prompted me to re-release these compilations as books. The Body of Christ needs to understand why we worship the way we do, not just copying what others are doing but worshipping from our hearts in spirit and truth.

The chapters are each individual lessons I used when teaching about worship. The book is designed for the reader to study and then allow the Holy Spirit to lead you or your dance group in your unique expression of worship.

My prayer for each individual who works through these chapters is that you will experience what it means to “worship in spirit and in truth”!

Reviews

There is a lot of information in this compact book. I love how Julaine broke the words and meanings down tot the roots to explain them and then put them in context for us to understand. This book gives the reader a complete picture of worship. I think it is a necessary tool for worship leaders to have.
