Julaine has lived out her calling, not just as a teacher, but as a worshipper and intercessor through the expression of dance and movement.

Intercession through Dance is published for Spirit of Life Dance Ministries as a tool for teaching and learning about Prayer in Movement.

About the book Intercession through Dance

We moved from Jo’burg to Cape Town when I was thirteen, and when I was sixteen years old, our whole church joined another church – The Lighthouse Christian Church. Thinking back on it now, I realise how much of an anomaly that is because most churches split rather than merge. What a blessing that merge was for my family and for my spiritual growth. The Pentecostal movement had a significant impact in the Western Cape, and we now added a Pentecostal-charismatic element to our walk with the Lord. These people were hungry for the move of the Spirit, and PRAYER and worship were the engines that powered the ministry.

My sister and I joined the youth ministry called One Way and were slotted into home cells. It was a phenomenal youth group. Jesus was the focus, and soul-winning, discipleship, and PRAYER played an integral part in the ministry. Sometimes, we would have all-night PRAYER MEETINGS and then go out soul-winning on the streets.

The church also had a 5 a.m. PRAYER MEETING every Friday. I would often attend this with my dad. I later joined the INTERCESSORY PRAYER GROUP, and we had some powerful PRAYER TIMES. This church has been pivotal in transforming what church looks like in South Africa, bringing many different cultures together as the body of Christ.

This was the church where I began to minister by teaching people how to worship in dance. The dance team participated in many praise marches in various towns in the Karoo, Boland and suburbs of our city, INTERCEDING and worshipping, declaring the name of the Lord.

The first time that I understood Prayer in Movement was when Mary Jones from Australia came to South Africa in the early 1990s to give workshops, share the heart of the International Christian Dance Fellowship(ICDF), and establish the Christian Dance Fellowship of South Africa (CDFSA). I can still remember how we danced and PRAYED over South Africa and ended with our prayer picture as we asked the Lord to give us a word for our nation.

I believe that the Lord is busy breaking the traditional thoughts and patterns of ministry in the church and bringing us to a place of deep relationship, where we move for and with Him, and He moves for and with us. There is an awakening happening, and we are going to see this more and more. The Lord calls us to follow His lead as we move to the beat of His heart for our nations and this world.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER changes people, suburbs, towns, cities and nations - I have seen this with my own eyes.

My prayer for each person who works through Intercession through Dance is that their understanding will be enlightened, their spiritual perception will increase, and their PRAYER LIFE will be victorious!
