I received my first set of flags in 1992 from my Pastor, Colleen Snyman, along with some manuals on Movement and Dance by Marilyn Wright. I had just returned home to Cape Town from Psalmody Academy, in Randburg, where I had trained in Christian Dance. It was there that the Lord told me, “I have called you to dance for Me.” He gave me strategy and a vision (see Vision), in the meantime preparing my pastors’ hearts to make room for my ministry while they were travelling in the U.S.A.
There have been many flags and many opportunities – I have given and received flags. I have also released and received back this avenue of ministry many times. And, I have learned to hold it lightly and flow with the Holy Spirit as He leads me on this dance called life.
In 2000, the Lord called me back into full-time dance ministry and over a period of a year and a half, I compiled my teaching materials gathered over the previous 11 years into three manuals: An Introduction to Christian Dance; Worship; and Flags and Banners. The research for the manuals was great fun, to say the least. I enjoyed every part of the practical, physical, knowledge-gaining and spiritual insight that I received writing them over ten years of ministry (from 1989 to 1999) – at times in full-time ministry and at other times in lay ministry.
The years of living this out in my calling, not just as a teacher but as a worshipper and an intercessor have brought me to a place where the Lord has prompted me to re-release these compilations as books. The Body of Christ needs to understand why we do things, and not just flag because it is pretty or even popular.
The chapters are each individual lessons I used when teaching about flags and banners. The book is designed for the reader to be able to study and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you or your dance group on the path and purpose for your flag worship or flag ministry.
My prayer for each one who works through these chapters is that your understanding will be enlightened, your vision become clearer and your warfare, victorious!
To all dancers, flaggers … this is an amazing tool for teaching and hosting workshops. Thanks Julaine Marais … we had a workshop yesterday and used this book as a teaching manual.

My understanding of flagging has always been that its meant for worship and warfare. I walked away feeling a lot more educated and now know the difference between a standard, banner and flag. The way the colours are positioned is also important. Well done!

I am glad I bought the book about FLAGS AND BANNERS. It is very meaty. I am going to do warfare with the flags I am making.
